COVID-19 and Football clubs: how to motivate your players during confinement?

How do you train to play soccer in a confined space? How can I keep my goals and those of the team in mind? Are there any remote solutions? Here are a few tips.

Soccer training in your own backyard: what exercises can you do to practice soccer in spite of everything?

What budding footballer doesn't have a football at home? You might as well take advantage of the opportunity to perfect your soccer technique. It's time to practice :

  • Dribbling
  • Juggling
  • Shooting
  • Ball control
  • Slalom
  • Etc.

These are all exercises you can repeat in circuit form to help your players progress. You can continue training your players by offering them a series of fun exercises to do at home. All you need is a football and you're ready to go.

What if you don't have a soccer goal at home?

If you don't have a soccer goal at home, you can make your own:

  • if you have a garden, use two trees as goalposts.
  • If you play on tarmac, you can chalk out the pitch and mark out the goal posts. You can also use two jackets laid out on the ground or two lawn chairs as goalpost guides.

Tactical analysis

You can fine-tune your tactics by making tactical analyses through videos. You can send your comments to your players so that they can fine-tune their game afterwards. Working with them on visualization also helps to keep them focused on their objective when the games resume.

It's scientifically proven that visualizing a match and concentrating on it can boost sporting performance.

How do you communicate with your soccer club?

  • Use a good communication tool to keep in touch with your players: Facebook group, WhatsApp, live videos on Facebook to answer their questions live.
  • You can also use the ZOOM application, which is not free but can be used to organize simultaneous training sessions by videoconference.

In short, you just need to be ingenious, stay motivated and keep in touch with your team regularly to make progress despite the confinement.
