Which soccer equipment is the most essential for clubs, according to purchasing preferences in times of health crisis?

Our survey enabled us to gather testimonials from 45 soccer coaches. The vast majority were men (97.8%). Nearly 70% of them have been sharing their passion for the game on the pitch for over 3 years.

Naturally, for over 85% of those surveyed, soccer coaching is not their main profession. 33% of those surveyed are in charge of a senior team, and over 60% are involved in youth coaching (from U7 to U19).

To sum up, we mainly targeted coaches who have been coaching members of amateur soccer clubs for several years. These are the people best placed to help us identify the real needs of the men and women who volunteer their time on the pitch on Wednesday afternoons and weekends. Our aim is to be as close as possible to young footballers, enabling them to realize their dreams by offering them professional-quality equipment at prices they can afford.

When we asked them what soccer team equipment they needed most:

  • 75% instinctively said soccer balls.
  • In second place came sports equipment enabling players to work on their coordination and agility, such as pace ladders or speed harnesses.
  • Next come goals, another essential piece of soccer equipment for clubs.
  • Chasubles, soccer nets and refereeing accessories were also mentioned, albeit to a lesser extent.

Which soccer equipment is purchased the most?

Logically, footballs top the list of equipment most recently purchased by clubs. This trend is accentuated by the health constraints imposed by the Covid-19 crisis. Indeed, as soccer club members are deprived of contact during training sessions, coaches prefer technical exercises with the ball. It is therefore essential to have a sufficient number of soccer balls.

Similarly, soccer equipment that enables players to develop their agility or physical fitness on an individual basis is also in great demand. This is the case, for example, with cups and ladders. Last but not least, clubs are also equipping themselves with transportable soccer goals and mini-goals, to make training sessions fun while respecting constraints. This soccer equipment enables volunteers to set up exercises that are both varied and effective.

Are there any differences between buying small and large equipment?

Whether you buy small or large soccer equipment depends on your needs. As a general rule, a large proportion of the soccer equipment required by club members is supplied directly by the club. This is particularly true of the so-called "heavy" equipment: goals, mini-goals, nets, etc.

The club's soccer equipment is essential to ensure the best possible playing conditions for its members. While light soccer equipment (chasubles, sports studs, balls, whistles, tactical charts, etc.) is also supplied by the club in the vast majority of cases, a coach may need a specific soccer item to organize a training session or to follow training courses. In this case, he can buy directly from a specialized equipment manufacturer.

What criteria are taken into account before buying new equipment?

There are of course several criteria that clubs and coaches take into account when equipping soccer pitches. The two most important are undoubtedly product quality and price. Given their limited financial resources, and especially in these difficult times, it's very important for associations to acquire inexpensive, durable soccer accessories. That's why over 60% of the coaches and managers surveyed say they buy from sports equipment manufacturers. By using sports equipment specialists, clubs benefit from professional soccer equipment, sound advice and quality customer service.
